"Single, Carefree,
Mellow" by Katherine Heiny
I guess "Single,
Carefree, Mellow" sells better than "Taken, Adulterous, Liars"
as happened to be the case with the majority of the short stories here. Some
were about single women having affairs with married men, or married women
having affairs with other married men... Overall, I probably wouldn't have
picked this title had I realized it before starting.
The dark sense of humor
saved it from being a complete flop for me. Slightly warped, dark humor about
daily life. Even about working and having affairs in a library made it pass
quickly. Or it could have been the short story format. I can't recall the
last time I read short stories... They are great for a short attention span.
But several of the stories just ended abruptly right as I was getting attached
to the character and into the storyline.
